Strength Training

Strength Training

At RTC we believe that Strength training is vital for the sport that we do. It will not only make you stronger in each discipline, it will help you hold form at the end of your race and most of all it will prevent injury and keep you in the sport for a long time.

Programs should not be generic and should really focus on each individual’s strengths and weaknesses to ensure maximum benefit with minimum injury in our already time-consuming sport. I would strongly argue that strength work will give you way more speed/endurance than a new bike or new wheels, and will cost way less. For strength training at RTC we recommend Jan Wanklyn – DNS rehabilitation specialist, Ba Human Movements UQ. She will find the hardest movements you do well and progress you from there.

Jan has raced Ironman professionally and has won both Australia and New Zealand Ironman as a professional. As well as this she has won the Noosa tri and multiple Australian titles over different distances.

In a professional capacity, she has worked with athletes from beginners to Olympians and is highly regarded in her field.

Why? Strength is the 4th element of triathlon and is often neglected. It will help improve your triathlon skills, improve your specific areas of weakness (once we have done an assessment) and it will help to decrease the incidence of injury.
Each program should be tailored specifically for you and your needs.

You will need 2 x 30 mins a week during the main season, and 3-4 x 30 mins during the off season.

Access to weights will be important once the movements are honed and maybe a gym buddy for accountability and CONSISTENCY.
