Weekly Update

the week is almost finished but here is your weekly update.  It was a big weekend with IM NZ, Davenport and Bribie on.

Congrats to the boys who raced in New Zealand Ironman on Saturday.  For the uninitiated it is a 3.8km swim / 182km cycle / 42.2km run.  We had 5 guys racing and all finished strong.  Our fastest RTC was Rob T with a Rob 5.25 and fastest run was Rob again with a smoking 3.33 marathon laying down the challenge to the RTC Melbourne team.   Great work everyone and look at the race feedback from Rob – Actually
had a horrible day! Carried a leg injury in the bike that caused me to stop and stretch on multiple occasions. Compounding that was two vomits on the bike which meant I started the run in calorie deficit. Then to top it off, a trip to the medics at the end for low blood pressure!  It’s the first bad day I’ve had in IM, so i guess thems the breaks.Time to chill out and get fast again. Ill race IM to potential again one day
…  I think a lot of us great work.

Next Up congrats to Kirstin for a great race in cool conditions in Davenport.  Well done girl.  Not exactly the warmest place to open water swim.

Last up was Bribie 4, the last Bribie of the season.  It was a great 2 days for RTC with again the beginners and juniors showing us what they can do on the Saturday afternoon.  Then the short and long course raced on Sunday.  We had great numbers up there and yet again it was good to say hi t seen for a while.  The racing was fast and furious (for some) and just downright fun for others.  The tide was racing in the swim so everyone got some assistance, until it came time to get out.  The current moved the bouy  a bit which extended the challenge for everyone, but all were in the same boat and swam to the conditions.

Now my apologies if you have placed and I miss your name out.  I did toss up whether I attempt to find the results of everyone who raced and work out the place getters and decided I would give it a try.  If I miss you out please let me know so I can correct it.   In the short course  placegetters were Scotty D 1st, Chris S 3rd, Kevin E 3rd, Gai G 1st.  In the long course we had Tom Grieve come 5th overall in the opens in a very fast race.  Congrats also to Cheyne 3rd, Braelan 1st, Jackson M 3rd, Leanda 2nd, anne G 3rd, evergreen Ann P 2nd.  Congrats also to Team Duane who came 2nd in their category.

Congrats to Dan H who had the fastest swim of the day overall, nice work. In the bike leg the biggest cheers came as the tandom bike went by, Duane would pump his fist in the air, and Radish would hold on for dear life to control the On the run RTC loved seeing everyone out on the course and high fiving as they passed each other.  Again the finish line went off as the
last of RTC headed into the chute.  A great day.

After the race there was a barbie (thanks to Lee and James), drinks, birthday cake (yes Duane was thoroughly spoilt) and slice.  Lucky we had to pack down so we could work off everything that we ate.  There were 2 ute .  Pack down was done super quickly and as always a massive thankyou to everyone
Rose supervised the pack down going on around her.

Thanks to everyone who has come, raced, cheered and helped out at any of the Bribie Races this season.  It is such a team effort and as always a great club to be involved with.  Biggest thanks to those who have gone up early to take up the trailer, set up tents etc and then bring them home on the Sunday t send their keys home with their wife).
Thanks to James (El president) for continuing to organise and liase with Phil with this race, and thanks to Phil H (and Kenny A) for putting on such a great home event for us.  We really are spoilt.

t have known and speaks a lot about the family atmosphere we encourage at RTC.  We have the privilege of having a few families with children / adults with significant 6 months they have been in contact with each other and then continued that contact, not only support each other, but to also look to the future and plan ahead as their children get older.  On Sunday s sons / daughters face to face for the first time and to continue to develop those friendships where they are in such a unique position, and they can help others in the same position.  RTC is very supportive of all people, disability or no disability, and to see evidence of that you need to go no further than to have heard the crowd as Duane ran down the finish chute on Sunday.  RTC Loud and Proud.  Great work.

For full results go the the follow Link to the  Bribie Results.

Rtc is coaching a beginners triathlon course that goes for 5 weeks, every 9am at Suttons Beach.  This is put on by the Moreton Bay Regional Council as a way of getting people over the age of 18 active again and enjoying being outdoors.  This is also a great opportunity for anyone who wants to have a go at a tri but has absolutely no or very little idea what they need to do, to learn.  The plan then is to race the beginners race at the Redcliffe Sprint event on the 6th April (not compulsory).  This only costs $20 for the 5 weeks and you enter
t let you enter which they will fix, so if you or someone you know wants to come, just turn up and we can work out the money at a later date.   I would love to see some of your family members, friends and work colleagues there.  Huge thankyou to Olivia S who has been helping out as the assistant coach for the sessions.  Besides it keeps her injury free by keeping her away from fridges which she has a tendency to kick.

The last of the summer, pre swimming core sessions will be held this Friday 7th March.  A huge thankyou to Kirstin who has given up her time 3 mornings per week to give us all iron-abs to match our super physiques.  Kirstin has done these voluntarily so we thank her for what she has done.  Stay tuned for core sessions in the winter, although this will be a full session rather than an add on to swimming.

Ironman meeting.  This next meeting for athletes is to go over what you may need to know specific to the race, prep for the last few weeks, what happens on race week, race day, tips and tricks etc.  They will be held on the 26th March and the 4th April.  Make sure you try and keep one of those dates free.  Definitely worthwhile info.

There are a few interested in going down just for the t enough interest initially for a bus however a few more are showing interest in either car pooling or a mini bus.  If you are interested in this please contact Jules asap and let her know so  something can be organised soon.  Contact her at  julesdillon@bigpond.com

There was an email earlier this week about the Kings of the Coast swim. The plans are as per that previous email so make sure you look at that and find out what you need to know.  If you need a lift home let Jules know asap as we have a few spare spots in cars available.  Make sure you are at the CC on time ready to leave at either 5.30am or 6am.

There are quite a few RTC doing the race next weekend and again a group of them are newbies to the Olympic Distance.  Good luck to everyone.  You should be well and truly in taper now.  We will have the tents up there as usual ready to cheer everyone on come race day.

Good luck to all the RTC juniors racing at the youth champs late next 15 racing and as always it will be hard and fast.  There is also a relay team event which should prove to be very exciting.  For more details on that race contact Tucks at juniors@redcliffetriclub.com or Gai treasurer@redcliffetriclub.com

We have had a few new people join RTC over the last few weeks so welcome to you all.  If you are unsure where to start just turn up at a session (except Tues am cycle), introduce yourself to the coach and they will help you out.  Alternatively email or phone me 0409 002 082 and I can discuss with you what you need to know.

You may have noticed that we have a new website that has been built and is slowly being uploaded to the server.  Thanks to Paul S for all the hard work that has gone into getting that up and running.  Please bear with us as we get all the finer details of this website sorted.  If you are
wanting the monthly training outlines please let me know as they are available (just not on the site yet).  Also if you have emailed any of us at the @redcliffetriclub.com email addresses in the last week we may not have got them.  There are still a few kinks to be ironed out.  So if you
t replied, please try again.  If you need us before then contact us via our mobiles or the fb site.  For all coaching matters please contact me at teamjko67@gmail.com until we have it sorted.  Thanks.

Thankyou to everyone who replied to the pacers request.  They almost have them all except for two.  A 45min 10km or a 1.30 ½ marathon.  If anyone is ll pass on your details to Les.  They are also looking for people who may be t do it at the last minute.  The benefit of pacing is the fun it provides, the ability to dress up, free entry, and the ability to help others make their dreams come true.  A very worthwhile and enjoyable morning.  So if interested let me know.  2 of you can even sign up to do it together.

The next order will be placed in the next week  and it will be the last order for the summer  season.  Did you know you can order many things?  Tri suits (different styles), tri tops, tri bottoms, togs, jerseys (sleeveless and normal), knicks, bib n brace, arm warmers, gloves, socks.
Heaps of things.  If you want to know more info contact Gai G at treasurer@redcliffetriclub.com
or at http://redcliffetriclub.com/uniforms/

You receive a club shirt free when you first join RTC so if you don’t have yours yet you also need to contact Gai so we can arrange for you to get one.  It is up to you (the member) to contact Gai, not us to contact you.  We are waiting to receive more small and large sizes so if you have talked to Gai and are waiting on those, hopefully they won’t take too long to come.

You also receive a swim cap when you join and after that you can purchase them.  I know there are heaps of people waiting on those and we are still waiting for the next order to arrive sorry.  Hopefully we will have them here very quickly so we can get you back into them.  They look great especially when doing group open water swims.
