RTC MBGP & Presentations this weekend

Hi all,

We have a big RTC weekend fast approaching with our club Duathlon on Saturday and Presentations Sunday so brace yourself for lots of cheering, racing and good times.

So far we have 87 people registered for the Duathlon which is awesome and with plenty of entries this week we should get past the 130 people we had last year, so if you have not entered yet, get to it. On-line entries will close Friday evening and we will accept entries and changes Saturday at the track but no race timing will be able to be provided. Looking at the race categories; we have 21 in the 7-11 year old race, 24 in the Short, 23 in the Long (one team) and 16 in the Enduro. And out of the 87 entries, 35 are RTC members so thank you for supporting our club event. All the details are on the club website, Facebook page and previous emails. Also thank you to everyone who is sharing the FB event with your friends, it has been great to have our club event fill most of my feed the last few weeks. Can I just ask everyone on FB to share the event one last time this week, just go the club page, click on events and then the MBGP and there is a share button.

The first race starts at 11.15 and we will start setting up at 9.30 and would love any help you can offer before or after the event. In particular would there be anyone who can tow the club trailer from Redcliffe to Lakeside Saturday morning please and take it at the end? Please let me know if you are able to do this.

Sunday afternoon starting at 2 at Aurora Blvd Park in North Lakes is our club presentations. We will start with some fun on the football fields, maybe some touch football, cricket and red rover, plus some games for the younger people. Award presentations will start at 3 and then we will have dinner. This is a no cost event open to all past and present members and your families so I hope lots of you can make it. There is a FB event where you can indicate your attendance so we can provide enough food and drinks, or email me please. All you have to bring is a chair or picnic blanket, and a plate of salad or dessert to share and wear cloths to run around in if you want. Just one request, before I  hire a battery powered PA system, would anyone have access to one we can use please, if you do can you please let me know before Thursday, thank you.

See you on the weekend,

Free RTC membership for 15/16 season

Hi all,

TQ announced last week about the changes to the TQ Club Championships from a five race series to just one race on the 6th September at Clontarf and to encourage as many RTC members to participate and help the club have an awesome start to the season the club is going to refund club membership to everyone who races this race.

Being the weekend before the Sunshine Coast 70.3 and lots of you attempting to make the Australian team to complete in the WTC 70.3 Worlds the following year at the Sunshine Coast this race might not be your early season A race, but it might be a good change to have a hit out and test your equipment or position or build some speed a week out from the 70.3.

You do not need to do anything special, just join TA and RTC as normal and after the race TQ will send me a list of everyone who competed and nominated RTC as their club and we will refund your membership.

The club is looking for more ways to get us all there racing so if you have any great ideas feel free to email or text or FB message me (I have still not worked out how to use snap chat so don’t snap me).

Exciting RTC news

Hi all,

I hope everyone is doing ok and managing some training in our glorious weather.

After a couple years of trying, this week the club received a fair size grant from the Qld Gambling Fund (same grant as we received for the trailer) to build a storage shed/clubhouse and we are closing in on finalizing a deal with council for some land to build on. This is great news for the club and all the members as it will mean the club can continue to grow and continue to help lots of people to improve their health and fitness.

The club committee have some ideas on how we could best use this grant to help you all and grow the club, but we would love to hear from you any other suggestions.

I would like to take this chance to think the club committee for all the time you give the club, the missed or shortened training sessions, and the time you may have spent earing an income or spending with your families. Thank you Danny, Peter, Gai, Nanna, Radish, Dan, Mark and GB. And also thank you to all the coaches in the club for everything you do to help people achieve their goals.

Finally, if you have not had a look at the club website for a while, take a look some time as Paul and I have been busy adding info. Under the ‘About’ tab we have added the RTC Vision, Mission and Values and also a page on the club awards. Again, if there is something you cannot find on the website please let me know.

Stay safe and upright,

RTC club update

Hi all,

It’s just two weeks till the second race of the TQ Club Championships and one of our home races, the Moreton Bay Tri. This is a really good, fast and flat race held at Clontarf on Oct 12 and it would be awesome to see lots of RTC people racing and supporting. TQ are also asking for people to help out on the day and this year all volunteers earn one point towards the TQ Club championships. If you are not racing and wish to help out, please email Tony at TQ. Plus, all the TQ Club Championships races and our own Moreton Bay Grand Prix go towards the RTC Club Championships awards, so go on and enter.

On the same weekend on Saturday morning Oct 11 between 8 and 12 is the North Lakes Aquatic Centre open day and we have been invited to participate. The coaches and committee are still finalising our plans for the morning, we will be running a swim session or two starting at 9.30 am and a run session and Paul is doing a wind trainer session, all as demonstrations to the public. We will also have our tent up with some people there to promote our club. We are looking for some people to participate in the sessions and be present on the day. If you are keen, can you let GB know and please wear your club polo shirt and any other club gear you have during the demo training sessions.

Triathlon Queensland have a couple of courses coming up which may interest you. There is a Technical Official course in Brisbane on Dec 6th and a Triathlon Coaching course on March 21/22 2015. If you think you may want to become a TO or a Triathlon coach, the club will assist you achieving these qualifications. All the info is on the TQ webpage.

A month ago TQ approached me to ask if we would like our club race, the Moreton Bay Grand Prix to one of the founding races in proposed club Duathlon championship series next winter leading into the TQ Duathlon at Springfield on August 9th. Tonight I met with Toowoomba Tri Club, Club Croc Tri Club and Tony and Rachel from TQ and started the planning for this series. I believe this is awesome for our club and our event and being a part of this series will really help us grow the Moreton Bay Grand Prix and our club. Dates are still being finalised for the three races, but it looks like our race will kick the series off on June 20th. The big change for us will be the addition of a third event for 7-11 year olds. The three clubs now have to come up with a name of this new series, please email me with any suggestions. I will keep you all updated with details as they are worked out.

During the last six days I have done three swims, a run and a ride so I’m officially in training for Noosa according to Cheyne’s jokes this morning so I might see you at some sessions and hopefully the weekend after next at the pool open day and the Moreton Bay Tri.

RTC AGM news

Hi all,

Thank you to the more that 50 people who attended the Special Meeting and AGM last week and sorry I could not be there as I had a family funeral in Mackay the next day. The minutes will be completed soon and they will go on the website.

Firstly the Special Meeting was held to conduct a vote on the adoption of an updated set of rules for the club and nearly everyone voted in favor of that motion. When we receive the rules back from the Office of Fair Trading, they will also go onto the website.

Next Kenny Adriaansen put forward that Phil Hungerford become the next Life Member of RTC and this was passed unanimously. Most of you will know Phil as the owner of the Run Inn and Race Director of many events including the Bribie Tri Series, Rainbow Beach Tri, Hervey Bay 100, Mt Mee Marathon and Qld Half Marathlon. Phil has also been our club’s longest supporter and without Phil’s early support, our club would not be the club it is today. Phil continues to help our club with the opportunity to assist with the Bribie transition pack up which he gives us cash to put towards our presentation night, plus Phil sponsors the Moreton Bay Grand Prix with prizes and the use of his bike racks. Phil also donates prizes for presentation night and other awards we give out during the year and provides us all with a discount when shopping at the Run Inn. From the entire club I would like to congratulate Phil on his life membership and thank him for all the support he has given the club and continues to give.

And finally the election of the club committee was conducted. There was a couple of exciting changes to the committee this year which I’m sure will have a positive impact on the club. Danny Hooley, one of the club’s founding members is the new vice president. Peter Little, another long time member and committee member has returned as the new secretary. Gai Grieve continues as treasurer and I’m sure we are all very happy with that, I know I could not do my job as president without all the things Gai does for the club. We have a new committee member Karen Readon, and Dan Hutchinson, Mark Knight and Anthony Radford are continuing as committee members. And I would like to thank everyone for your ongoing faith in me as the president of this wonderful club.

I would like to thank the people who served on the club committee during the last year; you have all done a great job supporting the club, members and coaches. Thank you Simon, Gai, Louisa, Danny, Kenny, Beth, Radish, Cheyne, Dan, Mark, Paul, Kirstin and Pix.

Next for the club is the appointment of the Director of Coaching. For anyone who is not familiar with how we have done this for the last 24 years, after the AGM we call for nominations for Director of Coaching and then this position is appointed by the new committee at the first committee meeting after the AGM. And with the updated club rules, the new Director of Coaching will become the ninth committee member. The next committee meeting is Wednesday Oct 8th. The RTC Director of Coaching is responsible for the clubs entire coaching program and coordinates all the other coaches we have in the club in delivering the coaching program. If you are a coach and would like to nominate for the Director of Coaching position, please email me before the next committee meeting with your qualifications, coaching experience and what you would like to offer the club and be available to attend that meeting, thank you.

And just finally, Mary will do a weekend wrap-up in her weekly update, but I would just like to express my and the club’s condolences to the family and friends of the guy who passed away during the Sunshine Coast 70.3 and to offer my support to anyone who witnessed his rescue from the water and attempted resuscitation on the beach. I would also like to wish a speedy recovery to Mark Betts who had a crash during the race. And to finish on a positive note, while writing this email I received this FB message:

Hi mate, just dropping you a MSG to pass on a great gesture from one of the RTC members @ Sundays Sunshine Coast 70.3.

I had just crossed the finished line & was in a little bit of discomfort as the last 5k had busted me and on crossing the line I wasn’t real interested in the medal or towel, all I wanted was water! I asked officials were the water was & they reply down there! Pointed another 50mt but looked like 5k, on hearing a few of my profanities a member of the RTC who by this stage had water turned to me & said ” here mate you need this more than me ” I accepted, & gave a quick thanks, I didn’t get his name so if you please pass on this little note in your presidents report it would be greatly appreciated. Great spirit by a great club man, many thanks Jimmy, Rick

Stay safe everyone,

The true spirit of RTC

Hi all RTC members and friends,
There are many things I love about being the president of this wonderful family triathlon club and thanks to the generosity of a lot of you guys and our club sponsor over the last few weeks I feel ever more privileged to be a part of RTC.
If you did not hear on Facebook, a few weeks ago someone decided to borrow Mary’s bike from her veranda one night and forgot to return it. The Thursday morning Mary discovered her missing bike, two RTC members Nathan Wilson and Dan Hutchinson commenced an operation to replace Mary’s bike via a Facebook message so we could surprise Mary.
By Friday morning Nathan and Dan had received enough support and money and thanks to Howard and Judy owners of our club sponsor Avantiplus North Brisbane who provided everything at their cost price we were not only able replace Mary’s bike, but also buy her everything else you need like computer, pump, saddle bag, lights and more.
Nathan and Dan were then able to pick up Mary’s new bike Friday and deliver it Saturday, two days after her bike went missing. A few things here are really amazing, firstly the love and affection showed to Mary by Nathan and Dan and a lot of RTC members who helped out with support and also the fact that this replacement bike could be organised in two days.
And again thanks to our club sponsor Avantiplus North Brisbane, Mary went back into the shop with her new bike and was provided with a A+ Dynamic Bike Fit by Carl and this will help Mary get the best comfort and performance from her new bike, so thank you again Avantiplus North Brisbane.
We are all super lucky to be involved in the Redcliffe Tri Club and be surrounded by caring people who support each other during the good times and the tough times. We are even luckier to have Mary and Brett in our club as many years ago these two wonderful and giving people, along with others rescued RTC from a possible collapse and did a lot to make the club as big and successful as it is today and continue to do so much for all of us.
Below is a photo of Nathan handing over the new bike to Mary and Mary receiving her A+ Dynamic Bike Fit by Carl at Avantiplus North Brisbane. Nathan also has a video of when Mary found out what RTC members had done for her and that video will be posted on the club Facebook page as I cannot work out how to insert it into an email.
Thank you to Nathan and Dan for organising this and to everyone who pledged their support to make it happen and to Howard and Judy for providing the new bike, bike fit and everything else.

RTC president’s update

Hi all,

I hope you are all well and not too cold this week. I have just three really important things to share with you.

RTC Presentation night is on June 28th at North Leagues Club. This is going to be a fantastic night and a bit different to previous years. We are planning a little more formal night than usual, so we are asking you to dress up in your favourite dressers and suits, no, just kidding, just no jeans or race shirts please. The evening will kick off at 5pm with welcome drinks and fancy snacks. At 5.45 we will start the awards and then dinner and more awards and then desert and finish off with a DJ and dancing until midnight. North Leagues Club need final numbers by Sunday June 23nd and this means if you want to attend you need to buy your tickets by this Sunday. Thanks to all your hard work packing up transition after each Bribie race, the money Phil gives us is used to subsidise the cost of the night. Tickets need to be purchased by Sunday June 22nd at:

And if you would like to see who else is going, you can see who has bought tickets at:

Take home message number 1: If you are planning on attending RTC Presentation night on June 28th and you have not registered, you need to buy your tickets by Sunday June 22nd.

Saturday just past we held our club event at Lakeside Raceway and it was totally awesome. Thank you everyone who assisted and participated. We had 120 people competing which was a big increase to last year which was great. The racing was hard and fast with some people suffering doing both races in the Enduro category, from where I was it looked really fun. The results are listed for both the Long and Short races and Andrew has posted the photos on his website. We used a new timing app on Saturday (thank you Paul and Beth) and we hope we have the results correct, please let me know if your results are missing or incorrect. Also please let me know if you have any feedback on the event if you were there or if you could not make it.

Take home message number 2: Thanks to all involved in the MBGP and if you were not there, you missed a great day and I am planning an even bigger and better 2015 MBGP.

It’s nearly a new financial year and that means lots of memberships are due. When ever you are ready, Triathlon Australia and Redcliffe Tri Club memberships can be renewed at:

TA and RTC membership provides many benefits and it would be great if you could renew as soon as you can.  Just like this current year, mandatory TA membership of Tri club members mean that if you would like to be a member of RTC and participate in any RTC training sessions you need to be a current TA member. All the membership details can be found on our website or the TA website. There has been some changes to TA and Club family memberships which are aimed at getting more families to join TA and clubs by making it more affordable. Coaches will be checking membership status at sessions and you will not be able to participate if you are not a current member.

Take home message number 3: From July 1st, if you would like to swim, ride or run in a RTC training session, you need to renew your TA and RTC membership.

As always, please email/call/text/FB or Snap-chat, no I don’t have any idea what Snap-chat is, me with any questions or feedback.

RTC Duathlon this Saturday

Hi all,

Our club race, the Moreton Bay Grand Prix is only four days away and it’s looking to be a great day of fun and challenging racing. The weather prediction is for a perfect racing temperature of 22 and for showers after we all go home, so that will be awesome.

The day will start  at 10.30 for anyone who can come early and help us set up the race track and transition. Registration will open at 11.00 and racing will kick off at 12.30. There is a cafe at Lakeside Raceway for all your food and drinks during the day.

Fabian, aka Pix is going to be our race announcer. You might remember Pix as the MC at last year’s presentation night and luckily Pix has not changed his mobile number so feel free to text or call if you would like a shout-out during the race.

There will also be a few companies attending and showing us their gear. Avantiplus North Brisbane will have a bike mechanic for any last minute repairs plus they are bringing some super specials with them. Phil and The Run Inn will also set up a little shop with some great priced gear. Tim from Yakima will also be showing off their latest car and bike racks, which I use and have not lost a bike yet. Nick from Skin Strong will have a stand showing and selling  his products and will also be racing with us.

Race numbers are looking great with over 90 entered so far. I’m guessing most of you are waiting a bit closer to Saturday to enter as there are only 35 RTC members entered so far out of 340 in the club. It would be great if you could enter in the next day or so to give me a better idea on how much stuff I need to buy and bring on Saturday  please. Enter here.

As always, feel free to call or email with any club or race related questions.
