Weekly Update

Hi Everyone.

What a busy but great weekend we just had.  Looking forward to a
few more of those over the next 2 months.  This week we are starting with
the juniors as they had their biggest race of the season on Friday /

Race Report for States 2014
RTC were represented by 19 athletes at the recent QSS Triathlon Champs in
Harvey Bay. Conditions on race day were near perfect for racing although a
little warm. There was a threat in the weeks before that it would be a pool
swim because of an invasion of jellyfish but they moved out to sea a couple of
days before. The course was flat & fast and most enjoyed the change in
location from our home ground of Sutton’s Beach. The word is that it will be
there for at least 3 years with them tendering to get Nationals there soon as

First race off were the Senior Boys with Alex Grieve & Ben Heaney
racing their last School’s Triathlon. Alex finishing 20th in 1.12.22 & Ben
in 26th in 1.20.00. Senior girls we had Shelby Eaton & Madi Vass. Shelby
punctured in the first 3k of the bike & toughed it out & finished the
bike riding on the flat single. She finished in 17th in 1.26.21. Madi also
enjoyed the atmosphere of her last last States in 25th in 1.35.28.

Next up the intermediate boys where we had 4 boys racing in the 400/16/4
event. Braelan Renton came in in 7th place(being 1st reserve for the QLD Team)
in 49.48. Next was Jacob Caruana with a solid race & respectable 12th in
51.24. Adam Brown finished in 20th in 53.02. With a good off season of base I
think Adam will move well up the ranks. Ross Maybury was DQ’d after altercation
with a TO over him pulling his shoulders out of his tri suit. TO 1 Rosco nil.
Intermediate girls we saw Jess Corliss take the bronze in a nailbighter in
54.50.(QLD Team)Next in was April Scurr in 11th 57.41. A good solid race from
April with a 15.15 for the 4k run. Olivia Nendick was a DNF pulling out injured
in the bike. Always next year Olivia. Aurora Kellam Pearson raced in possibly
her last States with her & her family heading OS to live in the next
6months. She looked like she enjoyed every minute out there even the run
finishing up in 18th in 1.00.03.

The Jnr Boys were by far our best results with Elliot Schultz taking out
the Gold in the 300/12/3 race. 4th out of the water & after 1 lap of the
bike took the lead to only surrender the lead briefly in the run before
crossing the line 1st in 38.01. Awesome race & QLD rep. Lochie Sinclair
raced really well across all 3  disciplines to finish in a creditable 9th
in 40.42. Our Jnr Girls we had 5 out there with 4 of them being their first
States. Tahlia Fletcher with her awesome 3k run time of 11.19 finished in 7th
place(first reserve for QLD) in 47.30. Tilly Barrett had an awesome race to
finish just outside the top 10 in 11th place in 49.25. Next in was Ally Soich
in 38th in 53.00. Think Ally may have learnt a valuable lesson about the swim
start. She got boxed in & couldn’t swim to her potential. A bit more racing
under her belt & another year in the Jnr category I’m sure we will see Ally
a lot further up the field. Our next two were Celine & Cevrine Coralie.
Relative new comers to the sport from swimming they looked like they had a ball
out there. Celine finished in 57th in 55.49 & Cevrine in 63rd in 56.49.
Well done girls.

On the following day all the kids participate in a relay event. A few of
our Jnrs medaled in this event. Teams are decided off results from the
individual event. The following were awarded medals

  • Shelby, swimmer in Snr Girls Met Nth, Gold
  • April, runner in Inter Girls Sunny Coast, Gold
  • Lochie, cyclist in Jnr Met Nth boys, Silver
  • Elliot, runner in Jnr Met Nth boys, Silver
  • Jacob, runner in Inter Met Nth, Silver
  • Jess, swimmer in Inter Met Nth

Met Nth took out both the Individual & Teams events this year &
winning overall. Sunny Coast finished in 5th.

Was really happy with most of the results & the way the kids
conducted themselves. Reports were favorable for the new course & sounds
like the event will be there for the next couple of years. A good couple of
days was had by all.

We now have Elliot & Jess off to Nationals in Bendigo in early April.
Tahlia & Braelan are 1st reserves. Fingers crossed they may get a call up.
The only down side Jess is now moving to train with Josh White at Pine Rivers
from March. We wish her all the best with the change.

Another great morning for a bike and run out at beautiful Dayboro.  25
keen people fronted the start line at 5.15am and most completed the 100km TT
course.  Onto the run ond only a handful completed the whole 18km.
Others did distances from 2 – 18km. It was a hot morning but RTC did themselves
very proud with what they achieved Sunday morning.  A huge thankyou to
Jules, Kymberley and team Stark, Kirsty J and everyone else who helped out for
a short or long time.  Great work to all the athletes who came and had a

MBRR are looking for a few more pacers in both the ½ marathon and the
10km.  If you are interested in doing this please let me know asap and
I’ll pass on your details.  If you paced last year and you didn’t get the
email from Les, and you are still keen to do it again (even at a slower or
faster pace) please let me know asap as you guys have the preference.  The
benefit of pacing is the fun it provides (unless of course you happen to see
someone in cardiac arrest on the course but that’s a different story), free
entry, and the ability to help others make their dreams come true.  A very
worthwhile and enjoyable morning.  So if interested let me know via coaching@redcliffetriclub.com

Last weekend we said farewell to Stricko as he headed back to England for
around 6 months to join Katie and Thomas.  We are also saying goodbye to
the Kellam-Pearson family as they head overseas for a while with Steve’s
work.  Make sure you stay in contact with us.

Congrats on the arrival of identical twins last week.  The photos look
beautiful of your little ones.  Looking forward to meeting them in person.

Pre Ironman dinner is this Saturday and are you coming?  It’s 6pm @ Mango
Hill Tavern. It’s time to wish those doing IM NZ the best of luck as they head
across the Tasman to race in the 30th edition of IM NZ. I believe we have Mark
Knight, Dan McTainsh, Alex Ha, Keith Fullerton, Rob Tabateau (anyone else?). We
will also take this opportunity to recognise the efforts of those athletes who
raced at Busso in Dec & Wisconsin ….so I hope Cam, Phil, Andrew &
Jerrod can come along as we didn’t get the chance to wish them well beforehand.
And let’s make it big one and include IM Melbourne athletes as well…Daz,
Fiona, Carl, Judy & Jules (again, if there’s anyone else, please let us
